2024 NASS Conference in Vancouver – Save the Date!
Believe it or not, planning for the 2024 NASS Conference is well underway. The location is locked in, contracts
are signed, talks are being prepared, and the sundial tour is being laid out.
The conference will be held June 20-23, 2024 in Vancouver BC – at the Fairmont hotel, the “Castle in the
City”. Last year, some of you suggested you’d like to know the dates of the next conference as early as possible.
Consider this your notice!
Vancouver is a great city to visit; we have held our conference there before, and people regularly ask when we
plan to return. COVID forced us to cancel the conference in 2020, but we have prudently been rebuilding back to
normal and we expect to enjoy a victorious full return in 2024 – with no need for proof of vaccination or hassle
when crossing a border. This is the year to come back or to join us for the first time.
The conference will follow the usual format with a reception, bus tour of sundials, a day and a half of fascinating
talks, multiple exhibits, a conference dinner, and opportunities for door prizes, bingo prizes, dinner gifts, and
camaraderie with old friends and new.
All this in a city perfectly designed for an extended stay. See any of the following sites for enticing options:

Note that the discounted conference rate for hotel rooms will apply for as many as 3 days before and after the
conference (subject to room availability).
Each year some of you ask if there is anything you can do to help. There are two quick and easy answers to that
question.
First, make a point of registering early. An email saying you hope to come is good and welcome news, but the
arrival of a registration form and payment is what really helps to ease the uncertainty inherent in trying to plan an
event of this type.
Second, if you have any interest in offering a talk at the conference, take the simple next step of letting me know.
If you have a new sundial to present – great. If you want to discuss some research – fabulous. If you just want to
talk about a dialing trip or experience you’ve had, or if you want to celebrate your enjoyment of sundials – it all
works for this welcoming audience of people who share the same fascination you do.
Mark the dates on your calendar. We will send out registration forms and hotel information with the December
issue of The Compendium; complete yours and get it back to us as soon as you can. And if you’d like to offer a
talk, please please let me know so that I can put together a complete conference schedule that will appeal to all of
us.
I hope to see you in Vancouver.
Fred Sawyer
