北米日時計協会(North American Sundial Society)の2023年会合の情報をいただきましたので、ご案内します。

Plans are now set for the 2023 NASS Conference in Ann Arbor, MI June 8-11 (about 20 minutes from the Detroit international airport).  We will be celebrating 30 years of NASS and 100 years of the Bifilar Sundial.  In a beautiful location, this should be a memorable conference.  Plan to be there!  Register soon (Form is attached).  Note that this event is earlier than normal – by a couple months – so don’t just set the registration form aside to be taken care of at some future point!  We have managed to keep the registration fee unchanged – but that means we need a good turnout to be certain the conference is self-sustaining.

Ann Arbor is best known as the home of the sprawling University of Michigan with its architecture, quadrangles, and bustling student life.  Yet, it also boasts of great art, science, and archeological museums, picturesque gardens, and fantastic shopping.  And don’t forget that The Henry Ford Museum and his Greenfield Village are just a half-hour away.

The conference starts Thursday afternoon (4:30 – 6:30) June 8, with an opening reception, introductions, and door prizes.   Friday, we will tour local sundials via motor coach. Besides seven sundials, and Matthaei Botanical Gardens, we will visit the Detroit Observatory.  It houses a historic transit telescope that played a pivotal role in the conversion to standard time, and the ‘death’ of sundials everywhere.   Saturday will be filled with a full slate of presentations.  The day will conclude with the conference dinner.  We will conclude Sunday (around 1:00) with more speakers and the NASS annual general meeting.  Please plan to stay for the entire agenda.   We may need to follow COVID protocols.  Please be prepared to wear a mask.

Best wishes for a great 2023

Fred Sawyer, NASS President
