About our Society

The Japan Sundial Society was established on March 25, 2000, in its inaugural meeting held at Nihon Manmannaka Center in Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture. The Japan Sundial Society is conducting the activities listed below with the purposes to promote correct knowledge of sundials among wider community and to exchange information between the members who have interests in sundials.

 1. Encourage the members to conduct scientific research about sundials.
 2. Investigate and archive records about existing sundials.
 3. Provide advices for the design, maintenance, and repairment of sundials.
 4. Communicate with foreign societies of sundials.
