Planning for the 30th Annual NASS Conference in Ottawa ON
Mark Montgomery and local host Mike Moghadam have been diligently working on planning our next conference. We will be gathering at Le Germain Hotel Ottawa (in Ottawa ON), August 7-10, 2025.

We have a block of rooms set aside at the discount rate of $284CA/night (approx. $205US at today’s exchange rate). This rate is subject to taxes totaling 19% and is good for up to 3 nights before and after the conference, subject to room availability. We will send full booking instructions with the registration forms in the next few months.
As always, we will begin with a welcoming reception on Thursday afternoon, with hors d’oeuvres and a panoply of door prizes. (This tradition of drawing for door prizes began many years ago with a single prize offered almost as an afterthought. It has now grown to be the culmination of a year of searching and watching for a dozen or more interesting items related to sundials that can be offered at the draw of a ticket).
On Friday we will board a tour bus to visit several sundials ‘in the wild’. We will also stop at the Canada Museum of Science and Technology to see their dials as well as dials from other museums on loan specifically for our visit. Current plans call for us to have lunch at the museum and to have some time to visit its other exhibits. We also expect to stop at the historic Dominion Observatory with its sundial and marker for the prime meridian of Canada. Our last stop will be at the home of Mike and Esther Moghadam to see the new wall dial Mike has built and to enjoy their gracious hospitality.
On Saturday we will have a full schedule of talks on sundials and dialing by our members. Following the announcement of the winner of the 2025 Sawyer Dialing Prize we will all gather for the conference dinner.
Sunday will begin with the Annual General Meeting and continue with a morning of sundial talks. We will adjourn around noon.
Thank you to those (all 28 of you) who have already indicated that you intend to join us in Ottawa; if you hope to join us but have not yet let me know, please do so soon – even though the date is still months away. Early notice helps with the planning.
We also have a nearly full slate of talks already! But if you are interested in giving a talk and have not contacted me yet, now is the time to do so. Last year I had to turn some offers down because they came too late to juggle the schedule to fit.
